AbstractABSTRACT: The urban growth process in the major Brazilian cities mainly in the highly industrialized areas, have contributed to shorten the gap of the flood frequency, in account of the great increase of impervious areas in the basin and the hazard on the macro drainage system. As a result there have being great social, economic and the ecosystem damages. In this case the geotecnologies has given a great contribution through remote sensing and GIS, to maintain georeferrential databanks up to date, and to diagnose the urban perimeters growth in the hydrographic basin. Here we present a methodological approach to a temporal analysis of the dynamics of the growth in the Vidoca River basin, in Sao Jose dos Campos Sao Paulo Brazil, in the life time of 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2007. The result of the analysis made possible to measure the actual critical level in the Vidoca Basin in account of the impervious areas growth in this period. The overall growth in the years 2000 2007 was not significant, but some areas were significant compared to 1997, contributing to increase the impervious areas and to overflow of the macro drainage.
